Ecorider based in Nairn has just announced the launch of the world’s first 90 miles per gallon diesel powered quad bike, the Ecoquad. The story is very significant for a number of reasons. Almost all farmers use quad bikes, almost all are fitted with petrol engines with high fuel consumption of 10-15 miles per gallon. Petrol prices are high and rising and there is the added inconvenience of regular visits to petrol station in some cases several miles away to buy the fuel. Furthermore typical CO2 emissions from petrol quad bikes are in the region of 450g/km. Ecoquad fitted with a powerful 440 cc diesel engine is substantially different; to start with the fuel consumption is very low delivering 90 miles per gallon on red diesel which is widely available in most farms. Moreover CO2 emissions are also very low at just 83g/km making it the most environmentally friendly quad bike in the market. Farming in UK is under increasing financial pressure and savings need to be made where possible. Ecoquad not only reduces running costs but also has a lower environmental impact.
